Homesteading the Permaculture Way - October 5th, 2016

crazy-squash

This month we will be discussing homesteading; what it is, why it is and how it’s applied. Are you ready to go “off the grid”? There is a gateway approach to it.

We’ll watch a homesteading video with further discussion. We will also be sharing our gardening experiences and what we learned this growing season: the good the bad and the ugly- including ducks, chickens, goats and bees, etc.

Here is a message from Greg, the our lead permaculture person:

“I just purchased a deck of permaculture cards designed by Paul Wheaton, self-proclaimed “Bad Boy” of permaculture (permies.com). No, they are not X rated (but I’m sure conventional agriculturists would call them blasphemous). Let’s play cards! You are welcome to bring refreshments if you are tired of the gluten-free chocolate chip cookies and organic lemonade. 😋

On a sad note, Bill Mollison, the founder of permaculture, passed on last week. Bill was one of those rare souls who really cared for the people, the land and all living things. He passionately pursued a vision of an abundant future for us all and created the best set of tools to enable everyone to get there with his permaculture design system. His life is a testament to the power of intention and the difference one person can make! I’ll find a good video of him.”

Unconventional Gardening Methods for the Pines - October 5th, 2016

We are proud to announce our very first course in conjunction with our sister organization: The Greater Hammonton Permaculture Club.

When it comes to gardening, people in the Pines will always tell you one thing: it’s hard to grow anything around here, because the soil is poor. Learn the secrets of growing peppers, tomatoes, yellow squash and even eggplants in peat and even sand! That’s right. One thing we have plenty of around here is beach sand. With these techniques (and the one secret ingredient) you will be able to grow your garden. Refreshments will be served.
